There once was a farmer who was very cruel to his horses. He had heard tell of mysterious happenings on Christmas Eve, when various spirits were abroad and even the animals are said to speak at midnight.

He doubted all such tales, and when his friends persisted he decided one Christmas Eve to prove them wrong.

So several hours before midnight he hid himself in the hay in the stable. Then at midnight, he heard one of the horses say to the other: "We have such a cruel master;tonight we shall kick him to death."

Shocked, the farmer tried to flee from the stable, but as he groped his way thru the darkness, he stumbled and was kicked to death by the horses.
