Your Name...How important is it?

Coming Soon! A Surprise!
According to some, Very important!
Although all cultures use names, naming customs vary greatly from people to people. In some cases they are very simple, such as those of many Indonesians who use just a single name. On the other hand, traditional Chinese naming practices were very complex. Chinese males were given different names at various points in their lives, in addition to a surname and sometimes a generation name.Names serve several purposes. In bibilical times, names usually described physical characteristics. Although named at birth, names like ESAU came from the Hebrew name Esav which possibly meant "hairy". In the Old Testament Esau was the elder of the twin sons of Isaac and Rebecca. He sold his birthright to his twin brother Jacob for a bowl of stew. And tricked his father into blessing him in the stead of his eldest brother.Esau was the ancestor of the Edomites.
Most importantly they help distinguish us from one another. Imagine how difficult it would be to refer to people if we did not use names. Instead of saying Bob one would have to say something like the short red-headed man who lives down the street. Some names carry information about our roots, such as family or clan names. They are generally inherited. Names can serve other purposes as well, such as the Chinese generation name which identifies the generation of the bearer, or the names used by some African cultures which describe the order in which siblings were born.

Consider this, my name was already picked out. It was to be Casey Renee. My name was actually being written onto the birth certificate when my grandmother walked in and quite possibly my life was altered from therafter. She changed my name.
Casey Renee:The name Casey comes from the Irish surname Ó Cathasaigh, which means "descendent of Cathasaigh". The name Cathasaigh means "vigilant" in Gaelic. And Renee is a french form of RENATUS, meaning  "born again"Late Latin.
My name was changed at that moment to SHANNON, composed of the Gaelic elements sean "old, wise" and abhann "river". Other desciptions say Little old wise one, making the name attribute to the Irish once again. I was given an additional 2 names. Lee, from a surname derived from Old English leah "meadow". And Anne, From the Hebrew name Channah(Which incidently looks and sounds alot like Shannon,as well) which meant "favour" or "grace". French form of HANNAH .Hannah was the mother of Samuel the prophet in the Old Testament. The Latin version of this name is Anna, and/or Anne.
So, to break it down, my name started out, One who is vigilant and born again. To: Little old wise one, dweller by the meadows with favour/grace.
Now ,folks, I know you cant see me, but I am a little person.LOL. Barely scraping in at 5 foot, my 13 year old daughter is taller than I. Still waiting on the meadows, but I look at it like this. It's a promise from God to me. Perhaps I'll have the meadows later, but I'll take all the favour and grace He will give me, now!
Be proud of your name. It really does mean somthing about who you are as a person. I encourage you to look up your own name. Consider the name Our Lord has given you. You may just be surprised at the results!
