An olive-gray powder fell on Shanghai,China on March 16th, 1846. Under microscopic examination the powder seemed at first to consist of two kinds of hair. When observed thru a more powerful instrument the substance was delclared to consist of confervae, a kind of aglae. When the fibers were burned, however, they gave off the common ammoniacal smell and smoke of burnt hair and feathers. According to the report, the skyfall covered an area 3,800 sqaure miles.
