Stunned workers left at break time early last week,in shock, holding pinks slips in hand and wondering
what had just transpired just a few moments earlier. Strange things was going on at Plant V of TFI,
Thomasville Furniture Industries, last week.
As soon as workers arrived at work, they were notified that at first break those whose name is called needs to report
to the break room. Attled, most of the workers knew what was coming.
At first break the workers filed into the break room and were promptly laid off, 'Effective, immedietly'.
They were to '...leave the building and do no speak to each other or to anyone. If the
media is outside and you speak to them you will be arrested and actions will be taken against you. You will
be considered fired,as well.'

People who had come to pick up the recently unemployed individuals were directed to leave the parking
lot and park across the street. No explanation was given for this. Under the watchful eye of their plant supervisor,
they drudged across the parking lots with looks of shock and desbelief on their faces. 'Supervisors made elderly ladies walk
across a busy street to get to their rides. They wouldn't even let them pull into the parking lot!', complained the niece
of an elderly woman in her early 70's. She didn't want us to use her name because she is honestly 'afraid of the 'industry'
(TFI) of coming after me'.
One can only sit back and wonder why these ladies and others were treated so badly. And why did TFI NOT want anyone to
know? Well....I'm afraid people will know now, won't they!
